Course Details

Our Hairdressing programme provides students with the skills and knowledge to become an assistant hairdresser, and a possible progression route to Post 16, Apprenticeships or further study in hairdressing or beauty therapy.

Entry requirements:
Young people who have a desire and passion to work in Hairdressing. An interview with the tutor plus a good reference from school is mandatory.

Designed to give you the basic skills you need to be a hairdressing assistant. The Core units are as follows:

  • Communication skills with adults
  • Keeping yourself and the clients safe
  • Hairdressing practice
  • Learn to organize your own study

Skills to be developed:

  • An understanding of basic hairdressing
  • Organisational skills
  • Literacy and numeracy skills
  • Listening skills
  • Sharing
  • Taking responsibility for one’s actions
  • Being a good role model
  • Ability to work on own

Where next:

  • Further study on completion of the course you can become a hairdressing assistant
  • Progress to Level 2 and 3 depending on what you achieve on Level 1

Training is carried out in our Hairdressing Training Salon and is highly practical. We have strong links to industry and can offer opportunities for training in commercial salons. All of our qualifications are on the current Department of Education approved list for Key Stage 4 delivery.

We offer programmes which can be designed over multiple days to include maths and English or just the vocational element.
